Our 37 acres throughout the Keweenaw are made up of forest, meadow, orchard, lakefront, and farm.
Out of a reverence for the natural world, we dedicate time, effort, and resources to learning about the land and maintaining it into balance.
Re-wilding the land
We introduce native pollinator plants like coreopsis and milkweed, manage invasive plants like tansy, and upkeep natural wildlife food sources such as red elderberry.
We always use readily available resources first for these processes.
We keep our soil healthy, resilient, rich in nutrients and teeming with life.
We grow what we can while regenerating the soil. This means we farm organically supporting beneficial microorganisms, insects, and fungi, use cover crops, rotate plantings, and add manure and worm castings made right here on the farm.
Our livestock is treated with the utmost care and respect.
We silvopasture raise meat goats and free-range chickens for meat and eggs. The goats clear forest tree skirts and brush while lightly tilling and fertilizing the soil. They create natural pathways through thick forest.
The chickens consume our garden clippings and kitchen scraps while turning our compost. Both chicken and goat bedding get composted in summer and winter.
Once fully grown, the goats provide nutritious, lean meat that’s perfect for slow-cooked stews.
